Cape Verde
We at CRV-Property are proud to offer a wide selection of property for sale in both the Canary Islands and Cape Verde.
Buying property abroad is becoming increasingly popular and we have a wide selection available on the following islands.
Canary Islands
The Canary Islands are an Archipielago of seven islands. All are of volcanic origin with black sand beaches. Situated in the Atlantic Ocean, off the northwestern coast of Africa, the islands actually belong to Spain, and form an autonomous community of that country. The islands were named Canaria (Latin canis, dog) because of the descriptions of the large numbers of wild dogs roaming the islands when they were first sighted. The Canary Islands are supposedly where the Garden of Hesperides of Greek myth lie. With almost 365 days of sunshine a year and only a 4 hour flight from and to the UK, buying property in the Canary Islands is a sound investment.
Tenerife
The largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife is billed as the island of eternal spring, and has almost constant good weather. Boasting the highest point in Spain, Mount Teide a non active volcano, at its centre, and combining this with its location on the map, Tenerife has become an island of many different micro climates, from dense forest to moonscape. Tenerife has the best European living standards and is an Island where it is very easy to combine business with pleasure. With modern commercial and cultural offerings and first level medical and health care assistance, it still manages to keep it traditions and culture alive.
La Gomera
Also known as the beautiful isle (La Isla Bonita), La Gomera is the second smallest of the Canary Islands. Rich in vegetation, history and culture La Gomera is a quiet, tranquil and picturesque place to purchase a property away from the hustle and bustle of major tourism.
Fuerteventura
>> Fuerteventura property for sale
Located just 100 kilometers off the coast of North Africa, Fuerteventura is the second biggest of the islands, and has the longest beaches in the Archipielago making the island a paradise for sun, beach and watersports enthusiasts. The island is widely believed to be the oldest of the Canary Islands. Its strange form was created out of a series of volcanic eruptions many thousands of years ago It enjoys a near-perfect climate with average monthly temperatures ranging from 17°C in January to 25°C in August.
Lanzarote
>> Lanzarote property for sale
The easternmost of the Canary Islands, Lanzarote has 213 km of coastline, of which 10 km are sand, 16.5 km are beach, and the remainder are rocky. Its dramatic landscape includes the mountain ranges of Famara (671 m) in the North and Ajaches (608 m) to the South. Tourism has been the mainstay of Lanzarotes economy for the past 50 years. Its climate ranges from mild to hot. During the day the temperature can reach around 35°C in the summer and 25°C in the winter.
Gran Canaria
>> Gran Canaria property for sale
Gran Canaria is the second largest island in the Canary Islands, located 210 km from the northwest coast of Africa This island is called a "Miniature Continent" due to the different climates and variety of landscapes found. Most tourists stay in the south of the island, which is sunnier and has less rain than the north. There is a large bird park in the south, as well as many beach resort communities. The number of annual visitors is 2.2 million, mostly visiting the southern part of the island.
Cape Verde
Cape Verde is an Archipielago off the western coast of Africa. It is formed by 10 main islands and about 8 islets. Situated in the North Atlantic Ocean the previously-uninhabited islands were discovered and colonized by the Portuguese in the 15th century, where they subsequently became a trading centre for African slaves. Most Cape Verdeans now descend from both groups.
Each island is different from the others in terms of landscape, people and culture, although most boast glorious postcard perfect white sandy beaches, and with over 10 to choose from there will be something for almost everyone.
Many say Cape Verde is at the stage the Canary Islands were at 20 years ago, and with European eyes turning towards the Archipielago many property developers and investors are beginning to see the benefits of the area.
The Barlavento (Windward) Archipielago is the northern group of islands of Cape Verde and consists of:
Santo Antão
The westernmost and largest of the Barlavento islands of Cape Verde, Santo Antão is an island of contrasts. A mountain range runs along the middle of the island, causing the climate to be dry in the south, cool in the central region and humid in the northeast region. Quite naturally, the vegetation varies dramatically between regions but one constant is the beautiful scenery where the colours, shapes and vegetation as well as the local wildlife (which includes vultures, kestrels, wagtails, blackcaps, sparrows and some reptiles) are also striking.
São Vicente
>> Sao Vicente property for sale
São Vicente is the second most populous island of Cape Verde. Although it is a volcanic island it is largely flat and the beach of São Pedro is considered to be one of the best for windsurfing as many international champions have discovered.
The more urbanized area is the capitol of the island, Mindelo in the north where the nights come alive with the swinging rhythm of the islands.
Santa Luzia
This island is actually a nature reserve that currently has no human inhabitants.
São Nicolau
The very active volcanic past of this ruggedly beautiful island is visible in majestic Monte Gordo, the highest peak of the island with an altitude of 1304 m. São Nicolau has become renowned for its main town, Ribeira Brava where dancing is an integral part of all events; from the waltz and the square dance with instructions in French, to the typical Portuguese dances.
Sal
The island of Sal has a climate very similar to other zones with the same close proximity to the African continent. It is a very arid island, and although volcanic in origin, constant erosion throughout its history has made it almost flat. The International Airport of Sal is the main gateway to the whole Archipielago.
Boa Vista
>> Boa Vista property for sale
Boavista is the most eastern island of the Archipielago, and quite near to the African continent. Known as the island of beaches and dunes because it is covered with sand dunes giving it a lunar scenery. It has 55 km of beautiful white sand beaches and emerald green water which make Boa Vista an excellent tourist attraction and provides the best alternative for the tourist's leisure time. Either for a swim in crystal clear waters or for sports like windsurfing, scuba-diving or fishing. Among the other beaches surrounding the whole island, Curralinho stands out as the best in Cape Verde, nicknamed Santa Monica because of its resemblance to the beach of the same name in the USA.
The Sotavento (Leeward) Archipielago is the southern group of islands of Cape Verde and consists of:
Maio
On the whole the island of Maio is fairly flat with the highest point, in the middle, being Monte Penoso, with an altitude of 436 m. The climate is very dry and the land is essentially calcium based rock with shallow and arid valleys. There is also very little irrigated land here but despite the unfavourable climate for vegetation, the island does in fact have the biggest forest park on Cape Verde Maio has tremendous potential in terms of tourism and its ecology is of great interest with the vast deserted beaches giving home to a number of species of sea birds and turtles who also use them to lay their eggs.Pollution is something that, fortunately, has not yet reached this island.
Santiago
Santiago is the biggest island in the Archipielago of Cape Verde and is home to half the nation's population. The deep and beautiful valleys resulting from hundreds of years of erosion offer resident’s good agricultural conditions and the view of these regions from above is truly picturesque. Nautical sports, mountaineering and long walks are what this island has to offer its visitors, apart from, of course, the beautiful unpolluted scenery. Praia, the capital of Cape Verde is situated on Santiago and has an animated night-life, with discotheques where local bands often play. Santiago is also home to one of the Archipielagos two international airports.
Fogo
Meaning “fire” in Portuguese, Fogo is the fourth largest island of the Archipielago but has the highest point, rising to nearly 3,000 m (10,000 ft) above sea level at the volcanic mountain of Mount Fogo. The volcano is in fact the main tourist attraction of the island. The volcanic cone rises from a sort of plateau about 8 km in diameter, called Chã das Caldeiras which contains a magnificent natural park called Monte Velho, where there are some marvellous and truly enormous trees.
This is truly the most spectacular scenery in the whole of the Archipielago. Historically, the volcano has been active and there have been sporadic eruptions over the years but the last one was in 1951, when the lava poured out of one of the two chimneys on the southern side of the volcano
Brava
Brava is the smallest island of the Archipielago with the exception of the uninhabited Santa Luzia. The coastline is very rugged and the island is mountainous with deep and abrupt valleys contrasting with high peaks. It is the only inhabited island in Cape Verde without an active airport which was severely damaged by Hurricane Beryl in 1982.
Due to its altitude, Brava is the dampest and the most green of all the Cape Verde islands and due to its abundance of flowers and colourful gardens full of the sweet fragrances of hibiscus, Bougainville, jasmine and others it has become known as "ilha das flores" (island of flowers). The scenery is beautiful and magnificent panoramic views can be had from a number of viewing points. The entire atmosphere is one of relaxation, far from the hustle and bustle of the modem world.
Buyers Guide - Your complete guide
How much deposit needs to be put down to secure the purchase depends on the type of property you’re looking to own. If it’s a resale then generally 10% is requested up front, increasing to up to 25% if you’re buying a new property direct from the builder.
